Industry name calls on UK to take action against Iran over executions – The Hollywood Reporter

Dear Members of Parliament,

It has been four months since protests broke out following the death of Mahsa Amini swept through Iran. The people of Iran are bravely resisting the draconian laws imposed on them by the Islamic Republic regime and want to end decades of oppression.

In response, the Iranian authorities issued a brutal and violent crackdown on the protests. More than 500 people have been killed, including at least 70 children (reported numbers), and around 19,000 people have now been arrested and jailed. Many imprisoned protesters are being brutally tortured, and kangaroo courts are rushing to sentence many to death – some of whom have been tragically executed over the past month. Just a few days ago Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini were executed despite global calls to abolish their death penalty – in case karamiHe didn’t even get to see his family one last time.

And some of the imprisoned protesters are artists and creators like actors Hossein Mohammadi (currently awaiting execution) and rap artist Toomaj Salehi (who is said to be in poor health due to repeated torture), just to name a few.

Enough is enough. If the global community, of which the UK is an active and influential member, does not act decisively, these atrocities will continue. We need to sincerely support the Iranian people in their struggle for justice and freedom. Therefore, we, the undersigned, ask members of the UK parliament:

. Act immediately and urge the UK government to hold the regime in Iran accountable for gross violations of human rights and women’s rights.

. Actively campaign to stop violence used against protesters in Iran, including an immediate halt to all executions.

. To demand the release of all political prisoners in Iran.

The ongoing repression against the freedom-loving people of Iran must end.

Thank you,
