Inmate escapes from Webster County Jail and leads police car chase
According to the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, an inmate escaped from the Webster County jail around 11 p.m. Saturday night. Police said the inmate, 43-year-old Jordan Mefferd of Fort Dodge, escaped through a third-story window using a plank to climb down an alley. Officers learned that Mefferd was likely in a silver car after he escaped. Around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, the silver car was spotted in Otho. When a policeman started to stop traffic, the driver left. Officers pursued the vehicle while Fort Dodge officers used sticks to prevent punctures of the driver’s tire. A slow-paced chase ended on South 14th Street with two suspects in custody without incident. Mefferd is facing felony evasion and felony evasion charges. Destiny Sumpter, 27, was charged with violating probation and aiding and abetting a felony escape. The Webster County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the case.
