Inti Creates developer and publisher, known for work on games like Mega Man Zero, Azure Striker Gunvoltand Castlevania-inspired Bloodstained: Curse of the Moonannounced that they are working on a brand new 2D action platformer that looks like a beautiful mix all three.
Grim Guardians: Demon Purge takes Mega Man’s fast-paced shooting mechanics and combines it with the close-range melee combat seen in classic Castlevania titles. The film stars two demon hunters – Shinobu and Maya – who must infiltrate a dangerous castle that has now replaced their old school. You’ll be able to quickly switch between the two characters to use their unique skills, or you can team up with a friend for a two-player co-op game.
Here is the official breakdown of the game from Inti Creates:
Grim Guardians revolves around two demon hunters who return to their school after a quest only to find a demonic castle where it once stood. Players control both demon hunter sisters in this 2D side-scrolling action game. Players must master each sister’s unique abilities and attributes to progress through challenging levels with bosses awaiting their arrival. They’ll also be able to find new routes through each level using the 2’s abilities, keeping the gameplay fresh.
Other features include 2-player co-op with special actions, expanded difficulty options with the “Style System”, unique changes to repeat play, and most importantly, quality and challenge players have come to expect from Inti Creates titles, this time with a new gothic horror aesthetic.
While the game is playable for attendees at the ‘BitSummit X-Roads’ indie game show in Kyoto this weekend, it does appear that Grim Guardians is in early development, however, as so the release date may still be far away. However, if this initial glimpse is anything to go by, it looks like the game could also prove to be another hit by Inti Creates!
