Ioniq 6 beats Model 3, Toyota EV position, GM battery flexibility: Car News Today

Toyota’s shift in the lead may not change its position towards electric vehicles. GM says it’s flexible in terms of pin format; Read into what you want. And the Hyundai Ioniq 6 pushes efficiency and range to new heights. This and more, at Green Car Reports.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 beats Tesla Model 3 in range and efficient, with an EPA rating of 361 miles. And in rear-wheel drive form, it links up with all-wheel-drive Lucid Air Pure for efficiency.

While GM built a strong argument around large-format pocket cells at the core of its Ultium EV push in the United States, it now suggests that it quite flexible with pin format. What does this mean for GM’s three Ultium Cells plants and the economies of scale that GM claims it will achieve by keeping the same format as much as possible?

And Toyota recently announced a new CEO and greenlit its first dedicated EV platform. But that does not signal a greater commitment to electric vehicles, or give in to environmentalists who have criticized the strategy. In fact, in a recent presentation at Davos, it doubled down on its strategy of not committing widely to electric vehicles.
