IRVINGTON, ALA. (WALA) – For the second time this year, tragedy has turned Kristina Anderson’s world upside down.
Anderson moved to Freeze Drive in Irvington after Hurricane Zeta damaged her home in Lucedale.
Now, she will have to move again.
While visiting a friend in Saraland, a neighbor called to tell Anderson her house caught fire early Thursday morning.
“By the time I got here,” Anderson said, “there were five fire engines and I couldn’t even function.”
She said the faucet at her house wasn’t working so it took volunteer firefighters several more trips to bring in water to put it out. By then, the house was gone.
Anderson said: “What do I do? I mean, I’m obviously not at home. I had surgery today. I had to cancel it because my health wasn’t very good.”
She is battling cancer in various areas of her body. She canceled her surgery Monday because she now, has nowhere to recover.
“I don’t make any money,” Anderson said. “I can’t pay my medical bills. Now I have to choose and choose what comes first, my health or my house that I don’t.” there’s more”.
Anderson said her insurance will cut her check but they are waiting for the state fire department to investigate first.
Anderson is grateful that she and her dog Bandit were not home at the time.
“I loved him to death but all his things were gone and I couldn’t replace that…you just couldn’t,” she said.
The state fire marshal’s office said it would send a crew to Anderson’s home Tuesday afternoon.
Right now, the Red Cross is helping Anderson calm down and she’s just waiting for the insurance check to start there.
