Two soldiers were killed when an Israeli raid shut down Damascus International Airport for the second time in less than a year.

The Syrian military says an Israeli air strike has killed at least two Syrian soldiers and shut down the country’s main international airport.

The airstrike, which targeted Damascus International Airport and the surrounding area, took place around 2 a.m. local time on Monday (23:00 GMT Sunday), the military said in a statement released by the news agency. Officially posted by SANA.

The statement said the attack left “two soldiers dead, two others injured, some material damage” and brought the airport to a standstill.

There was no immediate comment from Israel.

The incident marks the second time Damascus International Airport has been shut down in less than a year.

On June 10, Israel launched an air strike at the airport cause significant damage to infrastructure and runways.

It reopened two weeks later after repairs.

Israel has done hundreds of attacks targets inside government-controlled areas of Syria in recent years but rarely acknowledges or discusses such activities.
