Issa Rae was given the keys to her home town of Inglewood on Saturday, becoming the first person in the city’s 114-year history to receive the honor.
The Not safe star and co-creator appeared at the Taste of Inglewood festival in downtown Market St. to receive the keys from Mayor James T. Butts, who has dubbed her “the queen of Inglewood”.
In her speech, to hundreds of South Los Angeles residents and visitors, Rae admitted, “I was a little emotional. I’m trying to be a thug right now.
