‘It sucks for 6 games in a row’ – Chelsea fans question why the 30-year-old star was named in the team of the week against Everton despite a poor performance

Chelsea fans asked questions Thomas Tuchel’decided to bring on Edouard Mendy for Sunday’s Premier League game against Everton.

The Senegalese saver won the UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year award for his hugely impressive debut campaign last year with the Blues.

The 30-year-old probably hasn’t reached his peak that season with some shaky performances in front of Chelsea goal.

His screen against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League at Stamford Bridge was unconvincing.

Mendy made a mistake in the game, giving Karim Benzema a crucial goal.

Mendy started in goal against an Everton in dire need of goals and vital points as they battled a huge risk of relegation.

Many Blues fans wanted to see Kepa Arrizabalaga start and vented their frustrations with Mendy’s pick on Twitter:

@ChelseaFC Mendy has played six games in a row, replace him with Arrizabalaga.

@ChelseaFC I still want Mendy to be abandoned. That guy is dropping poor performance week after week but I didn’t know Tuchel kept starting him

@ChelseaFC Do we have to start Mendy every game? Give kepa a chance!

@ChelseaFC Kepa is always an option 😏😏. God punish you. In such games he must be the one to make the goal keep ala

@ChelseaFC Mendy? Again ☹️🥺🫣? Please rest in peace this guy. He’s not doing well these days 🙄!

@ChelseaFC Why did pendy start? He will 100% concede a goal today

Everton need to recreate their Derby Merseyside performance against Chelsea

It was perhaps the best performance under Frank Lampard since he took over as the Toffees showed glimpses against Liverpool on April 24 at Anfield.

They would eventually be destroyed by the Reds’ impressive attack in the second half but Everton put on an admirable defensive performance.

The Toffees would therefore be advised to follow Thomas Tuchel’s men, whose holding style is similar to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Frank Lampard needs points thick and fast and although they already have two games against Leeds United in the Premier League, their situation is ominous.

That’s because their game featured some tough games for Everton to try and get points across the board.

Besides welcoming Chelsea at Goodison Park, Lampard’s army also had to face a treacherous Leicester City.

They also had an impressive clash with Crystal Palace and in the final game of the season, Lampard’s side headed to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.

The Gunners are caught up in the race for the top four and so that match could affect both the top and bottom halves of the table.

Everton facing Chelsea need to put pressure on from the start. If they concede, it could be a long day for the Toffees.

If the Toffees are relegated at the end of the season, it will be the first time in their history.
