It’s rare in the age of social media—if you follow the right people, you can spot a trend from a mile away—for a fad to actually sneak up on you. Usually, the signs are there. But in the case of trousersIt takes all but a few weeks for the once “messy” shirts from being out of fashion to become one of the best Fall’s most sought-after wardrobe items. These days, they are everywhere.
I first discovered a pair in Oslo runway about the influencer Annabel Rosendahl. Pair it with an oversize t-shirt, Saint Laurent’s favorite Le 5 à 7 shoulder bag, and pointy toe heels. Norwegian makes the utilitarian silhouette appear surprisingly enhanced. I got attention, but a nice outfit didn’t set the trend, so I took it as a stroke of luck and got on with my day. Not long after, I noticed the silhouette on the inner runway New York Fashion Week, first Brandon Maxwell and then Coach and Tibi. When fashion month comes to an end, it’s too late to be on trend.
