Jazmine Sullivan celebrates Grammy nomination with four-song set – The Hollywood Reporter
Before winning her first pair of Grammys last year, R&B star Jazmine Sullivan was the most nominated female artist without a win, tying Björk.
So a year later at a pre-Grammy event, Sullivan joked with the audience as she sang songs from her critically acclaimed Grammy-winning project, Tales of Heaux.
“I think I won best R&B last year…” she said shyly. “I won? I won a…? I think I won…,” she continued, laughing as the crowd cheered for her.
Sullivan won Best R&B Album for HeOneux story, her bold and daring album explores feminism, sexuality, classism, and body shame. She also forced Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open” to win best R&B performance for “Pick Up Your Feelings,” which she performed to close out her four-song set at GRAY GOOSE. x GRAMMYs: Sound Sessions Brunch.
As the song begins, she says, “We’re having a little gig at the church – that’s where it starts!”
Sullivan, dressed in a bright red suit, was in high spirits — and performed like a vocal beast, while singing “Price Tags,” “BPW” and “Need U Bad,” her 2008 debut single. It topped the R&B chart and was “produced by one of my good friends, The Missy Elliott,” Sullivan reminded the crowd.
“I’m glad you guys aren’t stuffy! Thanks for the energy. Thank you for the vibes, she added.
“I love itttttttt,” she said and sang.

The event came a day before the 2023 Grammy Awards, where Sullivan was nominated for three awards, including Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance for “Hurts Me So Good,” as well as Traditional R&B Performance. best ensemble for “‘Round Midnight,” her collaboration with Emmy-winning multi-instrumentalist and music director Adam Blackstone.
The singer received the greatest response from the audience before and during her performance of “BPW”.
“So this next song, um, I wrote about how amazing my pussy is,” said Sullivan, blushing and turning away from the microphone. “I feel like it should be celebrated! So I did it myself – I’m celebrating my own pussy!
