Jazmine Sullivan celebrates Grammy nomination with four-song set – The Hollywood Reporter

Before winning her first pair of Grammys last year, R&B star Jazmine Sullivan was the most nominated female artist without a win, tying Björk.

So a year later at a pre-Grammy event, Sullivan joked with the audience as she sang songs from her critically acclaimed Grammy-winning project, Tales of Heaux.

“I think I won best R&B last year…” she said shyly. “I won? I won a…? I think I won…,” she continued, laughing as the crowd cheered for her.

Sullivan won Best R&B Album for HeOneux story, her bold and daring album explores feminism, sexuality, classism, and body shame. Sullivan, dressed in a bright red suit, was in high spirits — and performed like a vocal beast, while singing “Price Tags,” “BPW” and “Need U Bad,” her 2008 debut single. It topped the R&B chart and was “produced by one of my good friends, The Missy Elliott,” Sullivan reminded the crowd.

“I’m glad you guys aren’t stuffy! Thanks for the energy. Thank you for the vibes, she added.

“I love itttttttt,” she said and sang.
