Police: JCPS students engaged in ‘big battle’ bring loaded guns to school

A student at Pleasure Ridge Park High School is facing charges of bringing a loaded gun to school.
According to an arrest document, 18-year-old Deshawn Girton was involved in a “major battle” on Tuesday.
Apparently during the fight, he went looking for his backpack. Police said officers were able to immobilize the backpack, and inside, they found a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm gun.
Girton admitted to bringing a gun to the school, police said.
He is currently charged with unlawful possession of a firearm on school premises.
He is expected to be appointed on January 5.
