Jerry Jones insists he has changed during the Cowboys tenure
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has hinted that he has made many positive strides since he buy franchise back in 1989.
Jones told reporters at the Senior Bowl, “I find it funny when people talk about this – still old, still old, related to my 30s,” Jones told reporters at the Senior Bowl. Michael David Smith by Pro Football Talk. “If you know how many ways I’ve changed in 30 years. If you know how many different directions I’ve gone in 30 years. Both in terms of personnel and coaching. I know what I’m saying sounds defensive, but what if someone thinks they’re watching the same guy here at the Senior Bowl that was here five years ago, 10 years ago, 15 years ago, they don’t know how this works.”
To his credit, Jones public support head coach Mike McCarthy both before and after Dallas was knocked out of the knockout stages even though future Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton, report coveted by Jones for years, is ready for interviews this season. However, Jones is also still a practice figure in regards to HR and public flirting with the signing of big name Odell Beckham Jr. throughout the fall even though Beckham “not ready to play” out of a torn ACL in his left knee that he suffered in February last year.
In his latest comments, Jones shot at the San Francisco 49ers while discussing Dallas’ prolonged championship drought. The 49ers defeated the Jones’ Cowboys in the split and won the knockouts against Dallas.
“San Francisco and the Cowboys haven’t been in the Super Bowl in 25 years – haven’t won the Super Bowl in 25 years. Get that. San Francisco is in a similar situation,” Jones explained.
Cowboys not back yet to a Super Bowl since they Final won one in January 1996. San Francisco, meanwhile, play in the past two conventions and Super Bowl defeats were held in February 2020 and February 2013.
In short, Dallas fans could find themselves yearning for an “old” Jones if Payton guides the Broncos to a Super Bowl before Dallas plays its next game on the final Sunday of a season.
