Jesse Marsch is Not Ready for the USMNT Job

For many years, Jesse Marsch has been touted as a future head coach for the USMNT, and the man himself has publicly stated it would be his dream job. However, it has become clear over the last year that the Leeds United boss still has a lot to learn at the top level of soccer. Indeed, it would make more sense for the USSF to call on the 49-year-old after he has a few more years of experience in the bank.

Marsch has a point to prove at Leeds, and the fans are split as to whether he’s the right man to take the club forward. His performances in the Premier League could have a huge influence on his future career prospects.

USMNT Entering a Crucial Phase

There’s no doubt that the next four years will be a critical phase for the USMNT, as they prepare for the World Cup in 2026. The USA is one of the co-hosts alongside Canada and Mexico, with most of the games taking place here. The USMNT will have home support, and there will be a great deal of hype about the potential to go deep in the tournament.

Various industries in the country will help towards the buzz around the American players, with the rise of the betting industry set to play a key role. As more and more states legalize online sports betting, the competition in the industry is rising and sportsbooks are increasingly varying their promotions. One of the most popular options currently is the risk free bet promo that is currently offered by Caesars Sportsbook. This means that if the first bet loses, the new customer will get their stake back up to a certain amount. With the next World Cup on home turf, it’s likely that there will be numerous promotions tailored for this to attract new customers.

It will be a major disappointment if the USMNT can’t improve on its Round of 16 finish at the Qatar World Cup. Therefore, it’s highly important that an experienced hand guides the players through the competition. Marsch might not quite be ready for that task.

Marsch Still Needs to Work on His Tactics

When Marsch joined Leeds after the sacking of Marcelo Bielsa last year, his managerial style had been talked up in the media. The American was renowned as someone who liked his teams to play with high intensity, with most of the play coming through central areas in his preferred 4-2-2-2 formation.

The problem is, Marsch hasn’t been consistent with his tactics during his time at Leeds and it’s hard to see a clear identity in the team. Yes, there is high intensity, but people who watch the matches can’t pinpoint what the general plan is. It can be highly chaotic at times, and not in a good way. Perhaps the former Red Bull Salzburg manager needs more time to work the league out and devise a plan for the best way of playing.

Whatever happens, the longer Marsch manages in the English top flight, the better manager he will become. The USSF will be looking at his progress keenly and will assess later whether he can be the man to take the USMNT forward.

Few would try to argue that Marsch is the right man for the USMNT job at the current time. International management requires a great deal of experience, and the American is still learning his trade. Perhaps a few more years of Premier League management will make Marsch a clear candidate for the top soccer job in the USA.
