Jill Biden: Parents, Covid-19 vaccine is the best way to protect your children
Then, after bedtime – when we’re exhausted from the day and sure enough that if we hear, “please give me a glass of water” again, we’ll go into a perpetual state of madness – we quietly close our bedroom door and feel a pang of gratitude. We know that complaints about dinner and bedtime negotiations mean they are healthy and growing, and everything is fine.
As parents, we absolutely do everything to protect our children, and during this pandemic, you have done the same. You’ve found a way to support their virtual learning while you work. Some of them even quit their jobs to help their children. You have found many ways to create online playgrounds and birthday parties. You have chosen to vaccinate yourself.
There are times when you may feel that no matter what you do, it’s not enough, but I want you to know: You’ve carried your family through this. You are doing a wonderful job.
The President and I understand how difficult this pandemic has been for your family. We care about you and your child. Joe and his team work every day to give you what you need to keep your family safe.
That’s why I’m so excited that now, you have a new way to do it: vaccines for children, ages 5 and up.
Parenthood and anxiety go hand in hand. That’s what we do. I can’t promise you that the dangers of the world will become less terrifying. Just wait until your child starts driving!
With this vaccine, however, we can help address at least one of those worries. One big one.
Since the day you first held your sweet, fragile baby, you’ve had to make choices over and over to keep your baby safe. Getting your child vaccinated against Covid-19 is also your choice. Decide to protect your child with the same vaccine that has saved millions of lives.
