Jimmy Butler: Heat striker pushed out against Trail Blazers after receiving questionable consecutive technicals

Jimmy Butler’s Monday night, when the Heat hosted the Trail Blazers, was cut short as he was forced to leave the game with 2:28 minutes remaining at half-time.

Butler was not called up for a 2-flagrant foul, which resulted in his disqualification, nor was it the result of two separate technical fouls that were called as part of two separate incidents.

Instead, it’s one of those rare instances in the NBA when a player is called up for two technicals within seconds and is, therefore, disqualified.

Butler was called up for his first technique after he made the float fall despite the collision. Despite receiving the call in his favor, the 6-foot-7 forward sparred with junior official Mousa Dagher, who helped him get his first technique.

After that, Butler seemed to walk away but then Courtney Kirkland called the second technician.

Forced out of the game, Butler’s three-pointer was completed by Chris Silva, a player who had not played a second until then.

The double shot was Butler’s first in four runs in the 15-minute competition. When forced to leave, he scored four points, three rebounds and three assists.

This came from a 19-point triples, 10 rebounds, 10 assists in the win over the Raptors on Monday night. It was his ninth double with the Heat, tying him to LeBron James the most in franchise history.

In terms of appearances, this is Butler’s second career in 660 regular-season games. His only previous knockout came when he was with the 76ers in the 2018-19 season.
