On Wednesday night, Jimmy Kimmel address the Republican leadership’s repeated denial of the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol.
“The party is divided over whether the uprising is violent on January 6thorder Is it a violent uprising or just a lively tour of the Capitol,” Kimmel joked.
Yes, this week the Republican National Committee release a statement announced that the January 6 riots — a violent uprising that resulted in many deaths — constituted “ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.” The statement was made by RNC President Ronna McDaniel, who literally dropped “Romney” from her name to placate Trump.
“Just a bunch of ordinary citizens wearing bear skins and horns, smearing dung on the walls of the Capitol,” Kimmel said.
The RNC’s statement was so skewed that Sen. Mitch McConnell – of all – voiced criticism.
“It was a violent uprising, whose aim was to try to prevent the peaceful transfer of power, after a legally certified election, from one administration to the next. That’s what it was, McConnell explained.
“Welcome to the Resistance, Emperor Palpatine,” Kimmel suggested. “Just to show you how far we’ve come from the crazy hole we’ve come, we now applaud Republicans who are willing to admit that what happened, happened.”
Then there is “Klan Mom” (by Kimmel) Marjorie Taylor Greene, a woman who once claimed that Jews control the weather with “space lasers” and who recently compared wearing a mask upstairs with the Holocaust. The Republican congresswoman stopped by the OAN factory to make the bizarre accusations against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
“So everything was completely out of control. Greene said that we not only have the DC prison, which is the enemy of DC, but now we also have Nancy Pelosi’s Gazpacho Police.
Kimmel couldn’t help but laugh at the flub. “That’s right! If you have cold soup, you should watch it, because Nancy Pelosi is coming to get it! This must be Soup Nazis! Seinfeld warned us about so many years [ago]. If the Gazpacho Police catch you, they’ll throw you right into the ice, so be very careful! “
