Joel Kim Booster is the official Summer Mesh ambassador

Depending on where you are in the world, it is hot outside, so it’s almost a statement of fact to herald this season of see-through shirt. And while laces and hooks have their place, undeniably, mesh is the most interesting of the intermediate weaves between shirt and leather. With the right application, a mesh shirt can be the outfit equivalent of a condensate sweatshirt on a hot summer night.

No one makes this more difficult than the comedian Joel Kim Boosterwho had his net torn while the press circled his debut film Fire Island, hit Hulu earlier this month. First, he wore a white Dion Lee corset to the movie premiere. He followed that up a few weeks later with a dark gray mesh bodysuit by New York-based brand Leak to appear on Watch What Happens Live. A few days later thathe wore a black mesh t-shirt by Ami to the premiere of the upcoming Apple TV comedy Robbed, on which he also stars. A busy schedule requires the body’s ability to breathe.

Sure, mesh feels like a fitting thematic choice for Booster’s press tour — a mesh tee and Fire Island’s perennial gay oasis go together like butter and lobster. (Enjoy this beautiful photos of the The late André Leon Talley wears a mesh shirt on Fire Island in the ’70s.) But even beyond the eastern strip off Long Island’s South Shore, netting has a terrible guilt. Sure, the ebbs grid inside and out is mainstream all therefore often, but it also exists across a spectrum, allowing one to choose either a looser mesh weave or a thinner mesh weave, depending on preference.
