Jordan Klepper Calls Out MAGA Mob Who Deny Jan. 6 Happened
We will be celebrating the one year anniversary of the Capitol uprising, and while many of the hosts, experts and commentators who will be discussing it this week have watched from afar, The Daily Show reporter Jordan Klepper to be right in the middle of the action.
To mark the event, Klepper joined Chris Hayes of MSNBC above Beyond the scene, a weekly podcast hosted by The Daily Show’s Roy Wood Jr. immerses listeners in some of Comedy Central’s most impactful segments.
“We miss the Alamo,” says Klepper in the exclusive video version of the episode, which will be available on all podcast platforms Tuesday morning. “It’s a terrible story, we should forget about it.” However, somehow, he added, the US seems to have forgotten about January 6.
Klepper explains that when he goes to a Trump rally just months ago in Iowa, he was struck by the fact that there was no “coherent narrative” among the former president’s supporters as to why the uprising was false. Some people blame antifa or “Deep state”, while others claim nothing happened. “I was, at first, amazed at how quickly that information and those discarded stories came out,” Klepper said.
Later in the conversation, Hayes argued that what we already know about Trump’s role in inciting the attack would “remove him from holding any position of confidence ever” and that “there is a reasonable criminal case against him under federal law. ”
The violence that erupted on Capitol Hill last year has also spread to the Trump protests that Klepper has reported on since. He shared a story about a man who recognized him at a school board meeting in North Carolina last fall and “plunge” at him. He was blocked by his security, who The Daily Show forced to hire to protect Klepper from serious harm.
“They don’t like to be mocked,” Klepper said of the MAGA crowd. “Even if you’re not immediately recognized, we have to understand because there was a mob mentality when we brought up the camera.”
Looking ahead, Klepper offers a less hopeful outlook on the future of the republic. Wood asked why Americans still care Pete Davidson Dating Kim Kardashian That’s because “we’ve never been interested in democracy as an idea,” Klepper said.
“We care about democracy like a bullet to fit into a gun that we can fire to win the ‘my team beat your team’ contest,” he continued. how he knows Americans aren’t really “in politics,” but just want to play the “game”.
When Hayes added that US elections could be completely shut down if one side “never admits” that they have lost, Wood replied unequivocally: “So it looks like we’re in trouble. damned.”
