Justin Bieber calls for cancellation of concert in Saudi Arabia
“That’s why I am writing to you with a plea: Cancel your December 5 performance in Saudi Arabia,” Hatice Cengiz wrote on Saturday. “This is a unique opportunity to send a strong message to the world that your name and talent will not be used to restore the reputation of a regime that has killed its critics.”
Bieber will make headlines at the Formula One Race in Saudi Arabia in December, starring artists like ASAP Rocky, David Guetta and Jason Derulo in the inaugural Jeddah Grand Prix.
Cengiz urged Bieber to remember that he was performing at an invitation from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman himself.
“Nothing of importance happened in Saudi Arabia without his consent, and certainly not an important and flashy event like this,” Cengiz wrote. “Your face is even featured on the event’s website with a picture of him – the executioner of my fiance Jamal.”
Cengiz is not the only one to criticize the F1 race.
“If you refuse to be a pawn of MBS, your message will be loud and clear: I don’t work for dictators,” Cengiz wrote. “I choose justice and freedom over money.”
