Justin Verlander makes history at the start of the next World Series

Whenever Justin Verlander takes the hill to Houston Astros To kick off a World Series game in the upcoming series against the Philadelphia Phillies, he’ll be joining an ultra-exclusive, elite club. As of Thursday afternoon, the Astros have not named a Game 1 starter, but the nod will likely go to the 39-year-old for Friday night’s tilt.

Clemens – who retired after the 2007 season at the age of 45 – hit the field post-season competitions in the 1980s with the Boston Red Sox (1986, 1988), the 1990s with the Red Sox (1990, 1995) and Yankees (1999), and in the 2000s with the Yankees (2000-2003, 2007) and the Astros (2004- 2005). Verlander started the playoffs against the Detroit Tigers in 2006, as well as from 2011 to 2014, and has been in Houston in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022.
