Kangana Ranaut asked the court to record Rangoli’s sister’s testimony. Javed Akhtar does not support this idea.

Kangana Ranaut asked the court to record Ms. Rangoli’s account.

The Magistrates Court in Andheri has reserved actress Kangana Ranaut’s application to summon her sister Rangoli to the court for impeachment. The complainant in the case, Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar objected to the application.

Akhtar filed a lawsuit against Ranaut saying that in 2020 she defamed him on a TV channel. Kangana, on the other hand, said that Javed was fine interjected between her and the actor Hrithik Roshan. She said Javed called a meeting in March 2016 where he tried to intimidate her. She also filed a lawsuit against Javed during the same meeting in 2016 and alleges that Javed blackmailed her into an apology.

Kangana’s application filed before the Magistrates’ Court claimed that her sister Rangoli accompanied her to the meeting. Kangana stated that the Judge “did not record the testimony of witness Rangoli as appropriate to put the true and correct facts of the case on file.”

Kangana said that her sister should be summoned to court under Section 311 of the Criminal Procedure Code “so that the facts and accuracy of the case are recorded.”

Advocate Jay Bharadwaj representing Javed strongly opposes the application while saying that the stage for her witness has not yet come. Bharadwaj replied saying: “The evidence in the matter has not commenced till now and therefore the application is not maintainable and like the previous applications, the current application, too, is shipped with for the sole purpose of delaying the proceedings.”

Javed gave a list of witnesses to substantiate his Kangana defamation case. According to Bharadwaj, those witnesses must be summoned by the court first.

The reply submitted by Bharadwaj states, “when the recording of evidence will begin to address the matter at the post-summon (stage not reached), Accused (Ranaut) or witnesses of it may be examined before this Court. In a similar situation, in Kangana’s cross-complaint against Javed, Ranaut has the responsibility to put her witnesses and evidence on file to satisfy the Court on her case and more importantly, the complainant will not have the right to present his or her witness at the pre-convening stage.

After hearing both sides, the Andheri Magistrate court will pass the same order on August 11.
