Karlovy Vary Film Festival to show Odesa Film Festival titles in solidarity with Ukraine – The Hollywood Reporter

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, one of Europe’s oldest and best film festivals, has begun presenting elements of its 56th edition – which will take place in the Czech city of the same name from July 1-9 – in a press release issued Tuesday.

KVIFF also revealed that it will present the Presidential Award – which recognizes outstanding figures in Czech cinema – to the actor, playwright, screenwriter and director. Boleslav Polivka. His most notable roles include that of a priest in Vladimir Michalek‘S Forgotten light (1996), which earned him a Czech Lion Award for best actor and another award in the same category at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The digital restoration of the film was organized by the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in collaboration with the National Film Archive and the State Foundation for Cinematography and was performed at UPP and Soundsquare using the original sound. and negatives are kept at the National Film Registry.

And the festival is also kicking off a new year-round initiative called KVIFF Talents, whose goal is to “identify talented filmmakers” – currently only from the Czech Republic and Slovakia – “and support the create innovative audiovisual projects with international ambition possessing a high degree of originality. “Selected filmmakers will receive development financing, mentorship from experts, and the opportunity to present their projects to potential producers, partners and investors at the festival. “The show will be another key piece that fosters the greater originality, creative daring and international ambitions of filmmakers from our region,” noted the KVIFF executive.
