Kastellio Vaughan Moves To New Facility (Updated)
The family of Kastellio Vaughan, an Alabama inmate, has kept attorney Lee Meritt on to investigate neglect after they shared a photo of him severely malnourished on Facebook. Attorney Merritt issued a press release saying that Kastellio had been transferred from the Elmore correctional facility in Elmore County, Alabama, to the Stranton correctional facility in Montgomery.
Attorney Merritt made clear his plan to bring justice to his client in the press release.
It reads, “Alabama prisons have a duty to provide appropriate medical care to Mr. Vaughan while he remains incarcerated. Prisoners enjoy the same basic personality as everyone else in our country. My office has begun work to ensure that Mr. Vaughan receives treatment for his condition. ”
It continued, “We are also investigating whether or not the ages of Alabama violated their duty of care to Mr.Vaughan by allowing his medical condition to be granted to Spyro to the extent permitted by law. reflected in the images currently circulating online.”
As we reported earlier on Thursday, Kassie, sister of Kastellio took to Facebook to plead for a welfare check and medical intervention for her brother after sharing disturbing images of him inside the Elmore Correctional Facility. She claimed the establishment hung up several times when she called for information and removed her from his contact and visit list.
The now-viral post comes days after the same facility had to fire correctional officer Ell White after a video showed him hitting a distressed inmate who climbed onto the edge of a roof. The Alabama Department of Repairs shared an update to AL.com on Kastellio’s condition via email.
“He was assigned to the Elmore Correctional Facility (CF) but is currently housed at the Staton Medical Observation Unit,” it stated. “ADOC’s Office of Medical Services fully investigated his condition from a clinical perspective, and he was provided with all the necessary treatments for his condition. In addition, he has contacted the family to update their situation. “
Roommates, we will update you as more information becomes available.
