Keanu Reeves Reveals Why He Turned Down ‘Speed 2’
Reeves co-starred with Sandra Bullock in the 1994 film “Speed,” about a bus that explodes if it slows below 50 mph.
The actor appeared on “The Graham Norton Show,” where he said, “At the time, I didn’t respond to the script. I really wanted to work with Sandra Bullock, I loved playing Jack Traven and I love ‘Speed’, which is an ocean liner? I have nothing against the artists involved, but at the time I had a feeling it wasn’t right.”
Jack Whitehall, who was also a guest on the show, asked Reeves why he turned it down.
“Hopefully people will enjoy it – it’s been fun and it’s been an extraordinary experience to do it,” he said of the new film.
About the character, Reeves told Norton, “I had the same question – when the director asked me what I thought of doing another ‘Matrix’ movie, I said ‘What? That sounds great. but I’m dead’.” She said, ‘Are you?’ and I said, ‘Speak!’ She wrote a beautiful story, and I loved playing this character. How I am alive, all will be explained. “
“The Matrix Resurrections” opens in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22.
