Kellen Moore fired by Cowboys, Buccaneers interested in OC

The Dallas Cowboys and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore have decided to part ways when the season ends, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported Sunday night.

Moore is expected to be heavily pursued by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their vacant offensive coordinator position. According to Pelissero, he has also agreed to speak with the Los Angeles Chargers for the same position.

Both the Buccaneers (Byron Leftwich) and Chargers (Joe Lombardi) fired their respective offensive coordinators after losing in the Wild Card Round. While there is uncertainty about Tampa Bay’s quarterback next season, Moore will have the opportunity to work with Justin Herbert if he is hired by Los Angeles.

One of the league’s brightest young attacking minds, Moore’s dismissal was somewhat of a surprise, as he’d led one of the NFL’s best fouls in the previous two years. He was touted as a possible head coach last season, but Dallas’ decline in attack didn’t help his case.

He’s 34 years old and was the Cowboys offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2022. He also served as quarterback coach for the team in 2018 and NFL quarterback from 2012 to 2017, playing for Dallas and the Detroit Lions.

While this may seem like a layoff at first glance, there’s a sense that head coach Mike McCarthy wants to do too much with Moore’s game plans, which would explain why the split is such a big deal. what could happen.

Who will be the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys?

It is unclear if there will be an offensive coordinator job in 2023, as it is reported that Mike McCarthy will be the team’s game caller next season. Currently, there is no word on whether McCarthy will be both head coach and offensive coordinator or someone else will be hired for the job.

Having McCarthy as the play caller would be a terrifying sight for any Cowboys fan, as the last time he did so was in 2018 with Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay Packers, and that offense is extremely unattractive. He was fired mid-season after more than a decade coaching the team.

Dallas fans should hope that, after four years of not calling the plays, McCarthy have some new ideas for improvement Cowboys‘ offense. However, it will be difficult to upgrade compared to Kellen Moore.
