Kenny Pickett thinks he’ll be the first QB to be included in the draft
Regardless of opinions about talent and questions about changing hand size the measurements, the logic suggests some teams will either give the top 10 pick to a rookie quarterback who is about to become a rookie or get such a choice to take a signal caller on the opening night of the NFL Draft 2022 on April 28.
Many pundits expect that former Pittsburgh Panthers full-back Kenny Pickett or Liberty Flames Malik Willis will be the first player in the sport’s most important position to come off the table. Each Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Pickett explained during a recent appearance on “Breneman Shows Up” with Adam Breneman why he believes he will be the top quarterback selected in this year’s draft class.
Pickett said of that opinion: “I think there are a lot of reasons. “You look at the game now and how it changes… I’m a mobile person [played] in a pro-West Coast style system. I started at the program the first 5-7 years I was on. We walked away as ACC champions, 11-2. So I know how to win. I know the process it takes to get there. It’s never been an easy thing and I’m going to make that transition, I feel faster in the NFL now because [of] that experience. . . that I know how to start my business as a professional, like an older guy. At the end of the day, that’s what. . . around the position, it’s like, ‘Can you win? Do you know how to handle all the things needed to be a quarterback? ‘ I definitely do. So I think I’m QB1. ”
In their latest mock drafts, Chris Trapasso, Josh Edwards and Kyle Stackpole of CBS Sports both predict the Carolina Panthers will pick Pickett sixth overall, while CBS’ Pete Prisco and Ryan Wilson have the Panthers taking Willis. Carolina General Manager Scott Fitterer has admit The Panthers “really need a quarterback” to at least sit behind current starter Sam Darnold. It’s also possible that the New Orleans Saints have just completed a transaction for additional draft capital so they can proceed to pick a quarterback on April 28.
“Saints is a good guy,” Pickett told Breneman when asked about the interviews he’s had during the NFL Scouting Combine. “The saints are really good. I mean, they’ll try and give you a long play call. You have to get up, call it like you’re in a gathering, and then you have to watch the movie. . Then what would be , ‘What is that replay call?’ They try to get you everywhere. That’s a good thing. And so is the Senior Bowl. They do a great job.”
For a work published on March 22, Mel Kiper Jr. by ESPN there was Pickett falling to the Saints in the late teens of the draft, but that was before Trading on Monday relating to New Orleans and the Philadelphia Eagles.
New Orleans The current features Jameis Winston at the top of the depth chart, with veteran Andy Dalton as QB2.
