The team of filmmakers behind King Richard said in a statement, “Bring the truth of this father, and this family, the screen is extremely useful. Not as often as we audiences see – or as filmmakers, told – such a positive story about the Black community on film. Receiving this honor really brings us home to know that the Veritas Awards recognize unsung heroes, not only for their merits but also, and more importantly, for their humanity. ”
Of the six Veritas Award winners – Spark, Hidden Images, Posts, Green Book, Bombshells and Challenge of Chicago 7 – all but one were nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, and two also won it.
Green, manufacturer White heart and Trevor White and executive producer Price Isha (another sister of Williams) will accept the award at the National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards, which will be held in early February.
