The recent Planet of the Apes trilogy is one of the funniest and most thought-provoking blockbuster series revivals in recent memory. Start Lightly With Rupert Wyatt .’s 2011 Film Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The series took off when Batman director Matt Reeves grabs the baton for 2014 Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017 War for the Planet of the Apes with a subtle approach to post-apocalyptic action that never loses its humanity in the story of a burgeoning ape society.
Turns out their story isn’t over yet: Kingdom of the planet monkey, “A brand new chapter in the ‘Planet of the Apes’ saga is in production next month. According to 20th Century Studios, the story will continue for many years after the end War for the Planet of the Apesbut any plot details out there have yet to be revealed.
Kingdom of the planet monkey will star Owen Teague (It), Freya Allan (The Witcher), and Peter Macon (Orville), and it will be directed by Wes Bell (known for Maze runner movies but also unfortunately a boxed animated adaptation of Mouse protection). While this may seem like a change of guard, two of the screenwriters – Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver – worked on the first two films, and they do star Josh Friedman and Patrick Aison (the latter of which wrote excellent Prey).
Unfortunately, there’s no mention of one thing that has helped make the new Apes trilogy so successful: Weta Digital’s work bringing apes to life, including Andy Serkis’ all-time great performance in as the ape leader Caesar. That’s not to say the movie can’t be good with a different team and cast, it just easily fills the biggest boots, the kind of thing that would help or hinder the narrative ambitions of a movie like this. .
Kingdom of the planet monkey is currently set to premiere in 2024.
