SACRAMENTO, California – Sacramento State sophomore year Jennifer Koga received a large individual invitation to compete in the NCAA Women’s Golf Tournament area, it was announced today. Koga will compete at Stanford Regional on May 9-11.
The NCAA changed the post-season format for this year’s women’s tournament, allowing for six regional venues. Each location in the region will feature 12 teams and six individuals, with the top four teams and top two individuals (not part of the advance team) qualifying for the championship. With the move to six regional venues from the previous four-place format, 72 teams will still be eligible for regional competition, with the number of individuals not part of a team going up from 24 to 36.
Koga became the first female Hornet golfer to qualify for the NCAA Regionals as an individual. Sacramento State has appeared as a team four times (2007, 2017, 2019, 2021). Last season, the team was also transferred to Stanford, where Koga finished 45th after shooting 76-73-72-221.
This season, Koga leads the Hornets with an average scoring performance of 73.21 after 29 rounds. She was named Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Most recently, she finished second at the Big Sky Championship and recorded six top 10 finishes and eight top 20 finishes during the season.
