Kurt Angle on learning he’ll be working with the newly debuted John Cena
WWE Legend Kurt Angle revealed that he found out he would be facing John Cena debuting at the last second.
The two superstars competed against each other in the ring for the first time on SmackDown on June 27, 2002. The Olympic gold medalist won, defeating the newcomer with a knockout. The two stars have faced off against each other many times over the years, and it’s unlikely they’ll wrestle each other again.
In a recent interview with Scott Fishman’s TV insiderKurt Angle reflects on their first game, says they weren’t prepared for the showdown, as Vince McMahon wanted to see what John Cena can do within.
“It was that day. Last minute. Didn’t plan ahead. I think Vince McMahon just wanted to see what he had and wanted him to come up against a formidable opponent. That’s how he started. early in his career and never looked back,” Angle said.

Before debuting on TV SmackDown in 2002, John Cena was part of OVW (Ohio Valley Wrestling), WWE’s former growth territory. He was in the same class as Brock Lesnar, Batista and Randy Orton.
When asked if he knew much about the 16-time world champion entering the match, Angle said:
“I know he’s a handsome kid with a great body. His wrestling name is” The Prototype. “I didn’t know much about him other than he was working in OVW at the time. The development of WWE, where I think he even trained with Brock Lesnar.”

When it was announced that Kurt Angle would play his final match at WrestleMania 35, many fans expected Cena to be his opponent. However, it is Happy Corbin. Unfortunately, Angle was defeated by the former US champion in his retirement match.
