Lamborghini V12, V8 hybrid coming soon; EV second half of the decade

Lamborghini says the company is now at the end of an era, celebrating its last in the current herd of naturally aspirated V12 and V10 supercars, as well as the twin-turbo V8 Urus.

It plans to move next-generation products to hybrid technology, starting with Aventador replacement will be announced this year. The first all-electric Lamborghini will launch in the second half of the decade.

Talking to CarExpertLamborghini APAC regional director Francesco Scardaoni said the brand’s move towards hybridisation may come later than its direct rivals, but it was done for a reason.

“Of course, we know that some of our competitors have become hybrids, but we never said we wanted to be the first, we just wanted to be the first. the best,” he said.

“In this new field, because it is still a new field for everyone, every day is an extra day to learn and get new things about electrical technology that we can use. use in your car.

“We strongly believe that the new V12 hybrid Aventador will be a state-of-the-art hybrid architecture, and we believe that the next products will utilize the most cutting-edge technology.”

As for current cars, Scardaoni says the company is using this limited time period as a way to celebrate the end of an era. It’s unclear whether the V10 will be electrified or if the company will look to use the same V8 hybrid powertrain in the Urus and next-generation Huracan models.

“We are celebrating the internal combustion engine [stage]the second step will be hybridisation which will take the company to 2025, in the hybridisation phase we will introduce next year the V12 hybrid engine followed by [hybrid] Huracan [replacement] and Urus. ”

Scardaoni also confirmed that the brand will introduce an all-electric model with a 2+2 seating configuration and sit alongside three upcoming hybrid models in early 2025.

Lovers of the internal combustion engine need not lose hope as Lamborghini (which is part of the Volkswagen group that includes Porsche), is phasing out synthetic fuels.

“When we said we were going to switch to hybridization and electrification, we never said we were going to stop the internal combustion engine, which is why we are investing so much in synthetic fuels, because we can see the potential with synthetic fuels and if that is the case then we could open up many opportunities and many types of engines,” he said.

Lamborghini has an important year ahead, with new variants for the Urus SUV and its future V12 engine lineup coming in the coming months.
