Laura Poitras is Guest of Honor at Amsterdam Documentary Fest IDFA – The Hollywood Reporter
Laura Poitras, Oscar-winning director of Citizenfourwho has the latest documentation, Beauty and bloodshedwon the Golden Lion at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, will be this year’s guest of honor at the Amsterdam International Documentary Festival (IDFA).
IDFA will host a retrospective of Poitras’ work, showing all 7 documentaries she has directed, since her 2003 feature film debut. War flagsa cinéma Vérité about the advancement of a working class
The neighborhood of African-Americans at the hands of wealthy gay men, to Beauty and bloodshed, which follows the career of photographer and artist Nan Goldin and her campaign to hold Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family accountable for the opioid addiction crisis. Poitras is perhaps best known for his portrait of Edward Snowden (Oscar winner). Citizenfour) and Julian Assange (2016’s Risk).
Poitras will also curate a program of the top 10 films that have shaped her work and view of the world, a selection that includes traits like Steve McQueen’s. Starvation (2008) and This is not a movie

IDFA will hold a public master talk with Poitras and IDFA artistic director Orwa Nyrabia at
Amsterdam’s historic Pathé Tuschinski cinema.
On Tuesday, IFDA also announced two of its select focus programs for 2022:
Masculinity, which aims to re-evaluate depictions of alpha masculinity and toxic masculinity through a re-examination of classics including Les Blank The burden of dreams (1982) on manufacturing Fitzcarraldoand the Maysles Brothers’ Meet the Marlon brand (In 1966); and Playing Reality, will look at documentary performance and rendition with screenings of films like Clio Bernard The Arbor (2010) about famous playwrights Andrea Dunbar and Werner Herzog’s Little Dieter needs to fly (1997).
The 35th Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival takes place from 9 to 20 November.
