Lea Michele stopped by Tonight’s program to promote the revival of Broadway Funny girl.
36 years old Glee alum sat down with host Jimmy Fallon on Friday to discuss her lead role as Fanny Brice in the critically acclaimed play and then delivered a mesmerizing performance. of the Funny girl number “Everyone.”
“I’ve wanted to go back to Broadway for so many years, I’ve been gone for 15 years, Spring awakening was the last show I did,” Michelle said. “To come back and be on a show I’ve loved for years, but I’m a big fan of this series. Incredible cast. Amazing score. ”
After months of hype, the curtain cast on Michele’s period is Funny girl lead role on September 6. She’s replaced Julie Benko, who has been playing the role since original star Beanie Feldstein left the series in July. The show also stars Tovah Feldshuh as Mrs Brice, alongside existing stars Ramin Karimloo and Tony contender Jared Grimes.
Michele’s latest Broadway role isn’t the first time she’s starred in some of the beloved songs of Barbra Streisand’s hit musical. In the first season of Gleeactress Rachel Berry’s character immediately got an iconic performance of Act 1 closer to “Don’t Rain on My Parade” and later in the series moved to New York City to play lead role in Broadway revival Funny girl.
“I’m working on it now,” Michele told Fallon. “I am 36 years old now and the story of Funny girl lasted for many years. You see her love and her loss, her failures and her successes and become a mother and a wife… I feel at this moment, I am Right now, it’s perfect. Timing is everything and I am grateful.”
