Leaflet expected to name head coach John Tortorella

In May, New York Islanders head coach Barry Trotz was the Flyers’ “the first choose” become their leader.

If Tortorella is indeed brought in as Philadelphia’s next man on the bench, the organization will have a coach with lots of experience. Beginning with the 1999-2000 season with the New York Rangers, Tortorella served as the NHL head coach for 20 different seasons with four different franchises.

The 63-year-old helped Tampa Bay Lightning win their first Stanley Cup crown in 2004 and has won two Jack Adams Awards as the tournament’s Coach of the Year. He has guided Lightning, Rangers and most recently the Columbus Blue Jackets to the playoffs.

Tortorella is not serving as a coach during the 2021-2022 season, instead serving as a studio analyst for the NHL on ESPN.
