Legendary music photographer 72 years old – The Hollywood Reporter
Mick Rock, the flamboyant photographer who has captured the giants of rock music and is responsible for some of the most iconic images such as David Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Sex Pistols and many more , passed away. He is 72 years old.
Rock’s official Twitter account posted a statement confirming his death on Thursday night. “It is with the heaviest hearts we share that our beloved illusionist betrayer Mick Rock made the Jungian journey to the other side,” the statement read. “Those who have had the pleasure of being in his orbit know that Mick was always a lot more than ‘The Man Who Shoots the ’70s’. He is a photographic poet – a true force of nature who spends his days doing exactly what he loves, always in his own delightful way. ”
Rock filmed most of the biggest acts during the 1970s and took iconic photos like the 1972 Iggy Pop “backbend” and Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, while providing images for album covers such as The Stooges and Velvet Underground and the album Queen Queen II, which would become an element in the band’s iconic “Bohemian Rhapsody” music video. Recently, he has photographed the likes of Snoop Dogg, Janelle Monae, Cee Lo Green and Lady Gaga.
