How do you get a tech executive who’s all giddy and excited? Let’s talk about Metaverse and a new era of the Internet, of course, and now the two giants in the entertainment and toy space are teaming up on a big new project in that space. Epic Games is working with LEGO in what could be an important partnership.
The big focus is on the metaverse and a concept that can be very similar to Roblox, is now a huge hub for playing and also creating games. While Roblox has been hugely successful and profitable, in recent months Roblox has faced criticism over its business model and question marks over whether it’s a viable environment. Safe and fair school for children to develop games on this platform or not. The announcement posted by Epic Games repeatedly emphasizes the focus on building a safe space for young creators.
As the metaverse evolves, it is reshaping the way people meet, play, work, learn, and interact in 3D virtual worlds. The LEGO Group and Epic Games will combine their rich experience to ensure that this next iteration of the Internet is designed from the ground up with children’s well-being in mind…
The LEGO Corporation and Epic Games have agreed to three principles that will ensure the digital spaces they develop offer engaging play opportunities in a safe way:
– Protect children’s right to play by making safety and welfare a top priority.
– Protect children’s privacy by putting their best interests first.
– Empower children and adults with tools that allow them to take control of their digital experiences.
It will be interesting to see how this takes shape and indeed whether it succeeds. Not all major brand projects are successful, even if it is the most famous toy company in the world, given the existing competition from the likes of Minecraft and creator-led platforms like Roblox are well established. Of course, Epic will also capitalize on its experience and the popularity of Fortnite for its work with LEGO.
