Leslie Jones Goes Off on ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith for Saying Rihanna ‘Ain’t Beyoncé’

After getting hot with she took on the statue of Martin Luther King Jr. was just set up in Boston earlier this week, Leslie Jones ended her week of hosting guests on Daily program Thursday night by hitting the ball for another beloved icon.

“Who here is excited about Rihanna at the Super Bowl?” Jones asked for cheers from the crowd. “Everybody is excited. Well, nearly everyone.”

From there, Jones cut into a clip of ESPN First Host Stephen A. Smith threw the ball at Rihanna when he was a guest on Sherri Shepherd’s daytime talk show earlier this week. “I don’t want to say I’m not excited,” Smith said, calling the singer “awesome” and “spectacular.” But then he added, “There’s one thing she’s not: She’s not Beyoncé.”

“Dude no!!” Jones shot back. “Why are you doing this to yourself? You know what, Stephen A. Smith? You need to act like a pinnacle and retreat!

“The good news,” the host added, is that Smith has issued an apology to Rihanna and her die-hard fans, but “the bad news is his apology,” she said of a recorded video of him, in which he condescendingly calls her “sweetheart. “

“How dare you call Rihanna ‘baby!'” Jones replied. “You’re calling her ‘sweetheart’ as if you knew her. She doesn’t know you! But you know who she knows? Beyoncé!”
