Lewis Hamilton is knighted

Seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton received his knighthood for motorsport services on Wednesday, days later he lost on what should have been a record eighth title after a tense final lap at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Hamilton holds the record for the most race wins with 103 while he joins the great German driver Michael Schumacher on 7 driver’s championships.

The 36-year-old Briton, the sport’s only black racer, was knighted by Britain’s Prince Charles in a knighting ceremony at Windsor Castle in England.

Hamilton is the fourth F1 driver to be knighted after Jack Brabham, Australian Stirling Moss and three-time champion Jackie Stewart, and the only person to receive the award while still racing.

Other active athletes who have been knighted are Bradley Wiggins, Tour de France champion in cycling, 5,000 and 10,000 meter Olympic gold medals Mo Farah, two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray. British cricketer Alastair Cook.

Hamilton lost his 2021 championship to Red Bull driver Max Verstappen on Sunday. Both tied before the final race in Abu Dhabi, where the Dutchman overcame Hamilton in the final round to lift his first title.
