Lil Nas X’s Debut Tour Wardrobe with custom code pieces and soccer pads

Lil Nas Xfor all his charts in the nearly four years since he first posted “Old Town Road” to SoundCloud in late 2018, never having gone on a proper solo tour — that is, until the night past, when he started his debut Long live Montero tour in Detroit. For the occasion, Nas showcased a custom wardrobe he created with American fashion house Coach. This is the latest in a long line of fashion brands that dress famous musicians on their tours: think Harry Styles wear custom Gucci for him Love on tour date, or Dua Lipa in Balenciaga, Mugler and Dior custom for her Future nostalgia run, or BTS wear Dior clothes designed by Kim Jones in their time Love Yourself: Speak Yourself world tour a few years back.

Fusing a legacy franchise like Coach and a cowboy from outer space meets -Adam-minus-Eve dancing with devilish pop stars like Lil Nas X at first seem like an odd couple. . But both Nas – known as Montero Hill – and Coach are linked by their own strong brands, Americana.

“Montero’s style is bold, and it breaks boundaries — and most of all, it exudes confidence,” says Coach creative director Stuart Vevers. GQ by email. “The looks we created for the tour were not only inspired by the confidence he is known for, they were created to tell different chapters of his story.” Vevers worked with Lil Nas X and his stylist Hodo Musa to create six preset outfits “based on iconic references to American pop culture,” including the use of Free use of the brand’s Signature monogram. That, in particular, the echo hip-hop’s logomania legacywhich the designer says they “place together in unexpected ways to show how Montero is creatively re-imagining today’s American pop culture”.

And in any case, their connection is pretty straightforward: “We’ve always been a fan of Montero and his approach to fashion is all his own — and he’s worn Coach before here, and he always looks great,” said Vevers. “Creative conversations begin and grow from there.”

And though Nas didn’t go out as a great lone ranger in the Coach carriage, a leather signature horse eventually joined him on stage. “Similar to my collections at Coach, Montero’s style explores familiar American touches like varsity and westerns through a new generation’s perspective,” says Vevers. “The interface integrates our house codes, exploring references to American heritage, past, present, and future with a sense of fluidity to tell the story of Montero’s metamorphosis.”

The Trainer’s press release notes that the tour focuses on Lil Nas X’s origin story, “from his beginnings to the finished version of himself – a story that we hope to inspire others. The activities in the performance show Montero at different stages of his life and self-discovery, from birth, to childhood, to his emergence as an artist, to expression. full of who he is today. Among them were a fuschia football uniform, crystal-encrusted cushions and a monogram-patterned gilded gladiator jersey Coach, a series of cons and zeros in binary, and several elegant abstract phallus species.
