Linden man arrested, accused of assaulting US Capitol law enforcement officer | News
A Linden man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting law enforcement officers during the breach of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, according to the US Attorney’s Office.
Matthew Thomas Krol, 63, was charged in a criminal complaint with assaulting, resisting or obstructing officers from using a dangerous weapon or causing bodily harm, civil disorder and engage in physical violence in a building or confined space.

Krol was arrested in Linden and made his first appearance on Tuesday at a court in Flint. Krol said he was an executive officer of the Genesee County Volunteer Militia, according to court documents.
On January 6, 2021, Krol allegedly shoved through a crowd and threw a water bottle at law enforcement officers. He also allegedly assaulted a Metropolitan Police Department officer, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.
The US attorney’s office said Krol grabbed the officer and stole his police baton, adding that he used the baton to beat several officers including one person holding a shield.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says more than 750 people have been arrested on charges related to the Capitol break-in.
