Lionel Messi surprises former Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes with a shirt swap after PSG beat Lille 5-1

Lille midfielder Angel Gomes got a pleasant surprise when his side beat Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.

Despite the Ligue 1 champions being beaten 5-1 by current leaders, the 21-year-old was shocked to see Argentina’s Lionel Messi request to swap shirts with him.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is one of the stars of the game, finding his own scoreboard with an interesting chip after an earlier strike by Presnel Kimpembe.

While the players Lille and PSG were walking to the changing room, Messi stopped Gomes and asked him to change shirts. The moment in the tunnel was captured by MXH PSG and distributed after the match.

The former Manchester United youngster shook hands with the icon and they hugged before going their separate ways.

Lille did not perform well in the match, but this team showed considerable vitality in the first half, only to lose at halftime thanks to a save by the goalkeeper. Gomes started the game on the bench, but came on for 20 minutes and played quite well. He completed all 13 of his attempted passes, including a long ball, and lost control just once in 15 touches.

Messi, recognizing Gomes’ talent and possible future, has identified the young England international as a target for his next shirt swap.

The Argentinian superstar has a huge collection of shirts that he has traded in, showing on his social media in 2017 an entire room he dedicated to just exchanging shirt.

The collection has certainly grown since that post almost five years ago, and Gomes is the latest to be added to the group.
