List of Costume Designers Association Award Winners 2023 – The Hollywood Reporter

Celebrating their 25th, the Costume Designers Association Awards honored the eight winners in the competitive categories this evening during a ceremony at Fairmont Century Plaza hosted by Tituss Burgess.

For the film, Shirley Kurata (Everything Anywhere All At Once), Jenny Eagle (Onion: A secret knife out) and Catherine Martin (Elvis) all have won awards; both Kurata and Martin were also nominated for an Oscar for this year’s costume design.

On television, Jany Temime (Dragon House), Colleen Atwood and Mark Sutherland (Wednesday), Amy Roberts (Crown) and Carrie Cramer and Jason Rembert (Lizzo watch out for the big guys) were the winners of the night. And Natasha Newman-Thomas won for Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Spitting off the Edge of the World” music video.

From tonight on, however, the figurines awarded will not simply be called Costume Designers Association awards. They have a name now, just like the Academy Awards also known as the Oscars and the Antoinette Perry Awards for Excellence in Broadway Theater (aka the Tony Awards). As Terry Gordon, president of the Costume Designers Association, IATSE Local 892, announced during the show, the CDGA figurine will be called The Adrian, named after the legendary costume designer and founding member of the Adrian association who is known for creating wardrobes for movies like Wizard of Oz, Letty Lynton And The Philadelphia Story. “Movies have Oscars, TVs have Emmys and we have Adrian,” said Gordon. “From now on, we will welcome Adrian.”

In addition to the Adrians competing tonight, four special awards were given out: Bette Midler took the award for outstanding collaborator and Angela Bassett was given the typical award, while Oscar-winning costume designer Deborah L. Scott (Titanic, Avatar: The Road of Water) was honored with a career achievement award and Emmy-nominated costume designer Rachael M. Stanley (Allies McBeal, Sisters) received the service excellence award.
