Indian weightlifter Sanket Sargar on Saturday won a silver medal in the men’s 55kg in the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games to usher in India’s medal tally. In an interview with NDTV, Sargar talked about his frustration at not going all the way and winning gold. The 21-year-old has lifted a total of 248kg in the recoil and jerky sections, but only lost one kg to Mohamad Aniq of Malaysia.
Sanket said: “I feel very happy that I won the medal, but also a bit disappointed because I want to win the gold medal.
“I’m a bit angry and what am I going to do with a silver one,” he added.
Sanket was injured at the end of the clean segment and was startled because he said he would have to go in for treatment.
“The load was on my elbow and the doctor said the space had increased, so I needed to go for treatment,” he said.
Sanket, son of a pan shop owner in Maharashtra’s Sangli, thanked his parents for their support and also mentioned that Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu was an inspiration to him.
