Nearly 100 indie games will be on display during Saturday’s Wholesome Direct, a Nintendo-style indie game showcase that highlights “thoughtful, uplifting, and compassionate” games.
Hour-long broadcast scheduled for 12:30 p.m. EDT on Twitch and YouTube, the latter of which you can view here, is embedded above. This is the third year for Wholesome Direct, launching in 2020 after in-person industry events, like GDC and E3, were cancelled. It’s coming back in 2021 with a second broadcast highlighting 75 indie games across genres.
The Wholesome Direct doesn’t just reveal exclusives and new footage; it will also include developer interviews between launches and release dates. Snufkin: Melodies of Moominvalley, Coffee Talk Volume 2, Terra Nil, SCHiM, and Mailing time are some of the games scheduled to be shown on Saturday.
“One of the goals of Healthy Games is to change the way we think about which games are taken seriously,” the Healthy Games organizers said in a press release. “For years, the most critically acclaimed titles have been the ones with the darkest themes and worst life depictions, but also an entire world of video games filled with hope. rich storytelling, creative gameplay, beautiful art and sound.”
