Live updates: Ukraine-Russia border tension

Ukrainian authorities discussed the threat from “provocations” amid rising tensions caused by Russia’s force build-up around Ukraine’s border and stressed that cities were under threat. threatened to be protected.

Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, was asked at a press conference in the city of Kharkiv about possible provocations that Russia can blame on Ukraine, the so-called wrong flag operation.

“We are currently looking into every issue,” he said. “We get information from our services every day.”

“So far, we have heard about Chernobyl [nuclear] we have heard about the territory of the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as about other facilities on our territory and in the occupied Crimea, as well as the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions ,” he said.

The Chernobyl area near the border with Belarus is an exclusion zone after the 1986 nuclear plant disaster. Much of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions have been under the control of pro-Russian separatists since 2014.

“If we are talking about a provocation that the Russian Federation will try to carry out, we are well aware of what we are talking about,” Danilov said.
“We don’t know where this provocation might take place, in what form it will be realized,” he said.

“The Russian Federation has started a war in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and is now starting to say nonsense that we will take back the Donetsk and Luhansk regions militarily. I want to emphasize once again that we I can’t do it because we are responsible, says Danilov.

“I just don’t understand why the Russians need the ‘trouble’ called our country? Believe me, we won’t give it to anyone,” he said. “They are aware of the position of our citizens that we will fight for [land.] … We have never attacked anyone in the history of our country. But we will not give ours to anyone. “

Danilov said Kharkiv city would be protected in case of invasion.

Speaking about the evacuation of government institutions, Danilov said. “So far, there is no reason to take out or evacuate the document. If there are such reasons, the relevant agencies will immediately work in the appropriate direction.”

He added: “Nobody is moving anywhere now, because we don’t see a reason for that today.
