Local Girl Scouts’ new community garden hopes to tackle food insecurity
The garden is currently 20 feet by 30 feet, but there is plenty of room for it to grow on the corner of 17th and Minneapolis Streets in East Wichita.
“Some people don’t have fresh fruit and they can walk here and get some fresh fruit,” said Chayanna Walker, another scout on Sunday as she was planting. “We’re a community garden for anyone. We just hope no one ruins it.”
“If they want to plant trees or visit the elderly, we go with them and we will help lead them,” Army Leader Crystal Walker said Sunday.
