Local nonprofit returns to Southwest Florida from relief efforts in Kentucky

MARCO ISLAND, FLA – Marco Patriots spent the week in Kentucky helping to recover from the aftermath of deadly tornadoes.

The organization says it was able to help serve 2,400 hot meals to families this week.

Marco Patriots Co-founder Matt Melican and volunteer Joey Waves sent FOX four recent videos along with photos to describe what they’ve witnessed first-hand. The two describe the area as “a widespread disaster, the big trees look like they’ve been broken like a match, the debris looks like confetti everywhere and it’s as bad as it gets.” “

Through that, all they say is that the donations they receive go into providing hot meals for the community, 10,000 pounds of fodder, 2,500 pounds of dog food, and Sunshine Ace Hardware in the Island. Marco provided cleaning supplies to help.

Melican and Waves returned to Southwest Florida on December 18 and are thinking about launching another deployment soon to come back and help more.
