A group of children in Toronto are the first in Canada to receive a dose of the recently approved Pfizer pediatric COVID-19 vaccine, local officials say.
In a press release, City of Toronto officials said 10 vaccines were made available on Tuesday “before a limited number of youth immunization appointments on Wednesday and a large number of vaccination cases on Thursday”.
The children at the Children’s Hospital who fell ill went to a clinic to receive vaccinations, the statement said.

Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott, Toronto Mayor John Tory, Toronto Health Officer, Dr Eileen de Villa, and SickKids Hospital CEO Ronald Cohen were present to witness this important event.
Last week, Health Canada approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for use in children between the ages of five and 11.
The first batch of children’s COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Canada on Sunday.
In Ontario, immunization bookings opened on Tuesday morning with most appointments starting on Thursday.
