In the latest series of collaborations in the field of independent film and television in Europe, the Danish team Creative Alliance, the production arm of which is headed by director Lone Scherfig (The kindness of strangers, Education) and Ole Christian Madsen (Flame & Citron) and producer/CEO Malene Blenkov (Kindness from strangers, stabs in the back for starters), has signed an exclusive production agreement with Nordisk Film Production, the production arm of the Scandinavian giant Nordisk Film.
The two companies will form a division of the Nordisk Film-Creative Alliance run by Blenkov and will operate under the umbrella of Nordisk Film Production.
Blenkov said in a statement: “High-quality products are in high demand, and Creative Alliance has been developing a range of new projects over the past few years that we look forward to bringing to production with a wide range of manufacturers. Good writer and director. “This partnership gives us the ability to maintain our unique profile while also lending to the competence and strength of Nordisk Film. We very much look forward to this change and the synergies it will bring to being part of a larger organization. We see Nordisk Film as a large, ambitious, creative Scandinavian community that we will enjoy contributing to. ”
The deal, announced Friday, follows a similar relationship between nine leading independent film production companies, including France’s Haut Et Court, Israel’s Spiro Films, Germany’s Razor Film and the Lemming Film group of the Netherlands, and the acquisition of Beta Nordic Studios (BNS), a division of the German production and sales group Beta Film, of the Swedish production group Unlimited Stories.
This new wave of mergers and collaborations is being fueled by the explosion of global streaming, which has spurred demand for premium series and feature films. Most international independent companies are too small to fund and produce big-budget series and films on their own, so they’re joining forces to stay competitive.
