LOTR: Rings of Power hit 25 million viewers in the first 24 hours
Amazon Studio’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has made its big debut on Prime Video.
Amazon announced that the show hit “25 million global viewers” in its first 24 hours. This makes The Rings of Power “the most-watched series premiering on Prime Video,” Amazon said.
Amazon Studios released the first two episodes of The Rings of Power on September 1. The remaining episodes in Season 1 will release on Fridays at 12 a.m. ET.
“Somehow, it’s fitting that Tolkien’s stories – one of the most famous of all time and what many consider to be the true origins of the fantasy genre ” led us to this proud moment,” said Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke (via Deadline). “I am grateful to Tolkien Estate – and our hosts, JD Payne and Patrick McKay, executive producer Lindsey Weber, cast and crew – for their tireless collaborative efforts and Their boundless creative energy. And that’s what tens of millions of fans see– clearly as passionate about Middle-earth as we are–who is the true measure of our success.”
Season 1 ends on October 14 and is followed by four sequels. The creative team has All five seasons are mapped, including the final shot.
The Rings of Power is the most expensive TV show ever made, and Amazon isn’t the first company to try to strike a copyright deal. Netflix and HBO are also said to be interested, with Netflix is said to have planned a main show and multiple spin-offs before Amazon closes the deal.
The Lord of the Rings movie, television, video game and theme park rights are – among other rights – currently owned by Embracer group. The company said it is now review movies based on Aragorn, Galadriel, Gandalf and other famous Middle-earth characters.
